Lessons for Life: Fostering Mindset Grit & Resilience
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you start your homeschooling journey. The temptation may be to revert to your childhood experience, school, and get bogged down in the content.
BUT what if we were to take a step back; ask what skills do our kids truly need in life? What if our homeschooling practices were informed by the want to foster skills such as mindset, grit and resilience.
During this workshop we will run through the research and discuss some practical ways to intentionally foster mindset, grit and resilience in everyday life.
How to Afford Homeschooling
Let’s face it – homeschooling can destroy family finances. You lose an entire income, or you end up patching together weekends and night shifts, which is nearly guaranteed to lead to burn out. And many people feel they can’t even start homeschooling because they think they can’t afford it. But we’ve used many creative ways to afford our 16 years of homeschooling, and in this workshop I’ll go through our two-pronged approach that has enabled us to always have a parent home. Spending less without feeling like you’re missing out. Creating income that fits with your lifestyle. I’ll drill down into each side with lots of ideas that you can begin implementing today so you can afford to homeschool.
Daily Journaling & Coaching Sessions
Need a little guidance to get your Journalling Journey on its way? Take the first steps in introducing this transformative practice!
Join Heidi at 8 am daily during the summit, to implement and practice meaningful and intentional journaling.

Homeschooling, unschooling, or deschooling? What is the difference?
When you first heard about home education you may have heard it called homeschooling. Or you may have come across the word unschooling and thought, wow, what’s that? Is that possible? And if you’ve been hanging out in an online home ed support group you would have seen deschooling mentioned more than a few times.
Confused? I’ll walk you through what each of these terms mean to the majority of home educating families and hopefully dispel some of that confusion and help to set you on the path that you need right now.
Little Bang Science Session
This Little Bang Science Workshop is a crash course in science fundamentals for the lower primary years. Child participation welcome! Please bring a load of clothes washing and your smart phone or tablet with you.
Unschooling and Personal Empowerment
Unschooling can make you feel pretty uncomfortable at different stages, and I want to delve into that discomfort to help you feel more confident. I will engage in candid discussions, and share my own experiences with my 4 unique children to learn about unschooling and personal empowerment. We will cover the principles of unschooling and how it fosters self-directed learning, autonomy, and lifelong curiosity. I want you to gain the confidence to navigate the uncertain elements in unschooling. I aim to empower you and your children to thrive beyond the normal and gain a lifelong learning mindset.
How to Spark Curiosity in Maths
Love it or hate it, maths is everywhere. It’s in nature’s patterns, our favourite recipe and the rate at which our children grow (way too fast!). If you take the time to look at it, maths is actually quite magical. With maths anxiety increasing, there’s never been a more important time to bring back to the magic of maths. When our lessons are focused on sparking curiosity, asking questions and pondering problems, kids can develop their mathematical thinking, often beyond levels achieved through traditional lessons. In this workshop we’ll cover: -Strategies to reduce maths anxiety -Tips on how to focus on the magic of maths -Activities designed to spark curiosity -Questions that encourage mathematical thinking Ready to make maths magic with your kids? ✨
Tips on how to be ‘flexible’ by a very ‘inflexible’ homeschooler
When life unexpectedly gives you lemons, sell them and buy some chocolate! When I began homeschooling, I did so with a vision of academic excellence and perfection in all areas of life. Six years later I’m just happy that they’re learning something, that our relationships are strong, the house is ‘mostly’ tidy (don’t look too closely), and I’m no longer in the black hole of burn out (just). I’m finally learning that it pays to be ‘flexible’: to make plans and be prepared to throw them out when it all goes sour. Or, at the very least, to be prepared to re-envisage the situation. My brain’s natural immunity against change makes this VERY HARD and I’m hoping that my story and tips will help ease the path for others who are similarly ‘flexibility-resistant’, as well as encourage the ‘cognitively-supple’ to remember to utilise their natural ability.

Cam & Jaiden Dubin

In this workshop, Jaiden (15) and his Dad Cam delve into why this is, and share the story and processes they followed to launch Jaiden’s first business at 13. As a bonus, Jaiden will be sharing his top tips for budding young entrepreneurs to get them started on their own journey, today!
‘Help! My Kid Has No Interests!’ – Discovering Your Children’s Passions
Like the idea of interest-led learning but aren’t sure where to start? Kids unable to give an answer when you ask them what they want to learn about? This workshop is for you! We’ll be chatting about how to find your children’s interests and passions, how to support those interests when you find them, creating a family culture that supports pursuing your passions, what unschooling and interest-led learning looks like, and some helpful resources you can use. By the end, you’ll feel more confident in facilitating interest-led learning in your home!
Inviting Art: How to encourage art and rediscover it yourself
It is common for people to struggle in their connection with art, unsure how to provide it to their children. Luckily we are all born with artistic flare that never truly leaves us. I will guide you through how to help foster your children’s artistic spark whilst simultaneously rediscovering your own. We will go through different ways to set up invitations to engage your children across different age groups, while exploring a variety of mediums. By the end of the workshop, you will feel confident in reconnecting with art and facilitating it to your children.
Common barriers to learning: how to remove obstacles so your child is free to learn.
Home ed blocks have no quick fixes. It seems complicated when you begin, but the process of home ed creates freedom to learn and to be.
As one graduate recently said to me, “I loved home ed dearly, however, it wasn’t until i was forced to transition back into public high school that I truly understood what it had done for me. Home ed taught me the power of self expression and individuality… these qualities have enabled me to graduate high school… and now transition into my dream degree as the best version of myself who isn’t afraid to stand up for my beliefs or what is right… Home ed allowed me to be unapologetically myself.”
How to be alone, when you never are. Tips for coping with 24/7 nature of homeschooling
How do you find time for yourself? What if you need a break? Who can you turn to when you want some empathy?
When I was homeschooling I felt like I needed a break but couldn’t get one. I had all the kids all the time. If I needed my partner to fill in it was always for a purpose. I couldn’t leave them alone, childcare wasn’t an option, parents didn’t live nearby. I never had my own space. Over my 18 years homeschooling, I discovered strategies to help me be home alone in a house full of people. Let me share some with you!
Raising the Whole Child
In this workshop we will explore what it means to raise the whole child, looking more broadly at resilience, emotional regulation and connection and what we can focus on to create an environment in the early years that sets the stage for true maturity and development.
The Joy of Family Learning
Can you imagine bringing children of different ages together to learn deeply about the world? It is not only possible, but beautiful. Discover the joy of family learning together.
In this workshop, you will develop confidence to include children of all ages in learning across all areas including science & nature study, geography, history, language arts and even math. Come along for ideas and inspiration to embrace the joy of family learning.
Unschooling with your child's innate gifts
hat if we could shift our children’s struggles behaviourally, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually, just by recognising their innate gifts.
We are surrounded by curriculums that tell us what to study, learn and be good at. But what about our invisible magic – our innate gifts? For example, your child has a quick wit, can easily make money or is about other worlds… Let’s play with this concept!
By the end of the playshop, you will :
- See even more of your children’s gifts
- Know why your children give resistance or struggle with life when these aren’t recognised
- Be confident to embrace your child’s gifts, practically
STEM Education - No teaching or tech background needed
A big block many home educators face is not knowing a subject well enough, and not knowing where to find help. We can feel intimidated by topics outside our expertise. We are confident in our decision to homeschool, but at times we are uncertain how to tackle it. STEM is a 21st century buzz word. We know the future needs STEM skills and many kids are curious about it. So how can we help them discover STEM, without all the stress. Discover how you, as a parent, can become the guiding hand in your child’s STEM journey. In this workshop, Jillina will share ideas and practical approaches, real-life experiences, and resources for primary and secondary education.
Boxed vs Build Your Own Curriculum
Don’t let choosing curriculum overwhelm you. Understand the basics of choosing an all in one package vs creating your own homeschool curriculum.

Making Homeschool Sustainable Long Term.
Joyfully homeschooling has been my motto since the very first time I stepped out of my university job with 6 kids in tow and decided to do a complete overhaul of my life. Since the moment that I made the decision that life would be joyful and adventurous WITH our kids at home, I have helped hundreds of families to do the same. It makes life so much more fun when you understand that homeschooling gives you more control and freedom in your life than you have ever experienced before – and that is what will make it sustainable long term. Learning to live life in a way that systematically eliminates the tedious parts and highlights the very best parts, can become the very foundation of how you start and continue on your journey of homeschool, right to the end. I look forward to helping you to inject some serious joy in to your homeschooling!
